Our Story

Founded in 2020, Amelie Cafe grew from a simple idea: that a cup of coffee can be a moment of genuine beauty.

How It Began

The idea for Amelie Cafe was born in Paris — specifically, in a tiny café on the Île Saint-Louis where the founder spent a winter afternoon watching rain fall on the Seine. The warmth of that space, the unhurried rhythm of it, the quality of the coffee: it felt like something Nagoya needed.

Combined with a deep love of the Japanese tea ceremony tradition — the idea that preparing and sharing a drink can be an act of care and presence — Amelie Cafe took shape as a place between two cultures. Neither purely Japanese nor purely European. Something new.

We opened our doors in Sakae in 2020, in a converted old brick building with exposed concrete ceilings, reclaimed wood shelving, and light that arrives slowly through large north-facing windows. The space asked us to slow down. We listened.

The Space

The interior is a study in restraint. Every material was chosen to age well and feel calm. The menu is written by hand each morning. Dogs are welcome on the terrace. Children are welcome everywhere.
